Barracks & Main Guard Museum

The Barracks – Temporarily Closed
English Heritage is working with partners including the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, The Maltings Trust and Northumberland County Council on a project to transform Berwick Barracks into a thriving cultural hub.

The Barracks and the King’s Own Scottish Borderers Museum are closed during the project. We expect to reopen them in 2027 with modern, purpose-built gallery and exhibition spaces.

The Main Guard Museum
While the barracks may be closed the Main Guard Museum is open daily (except Wednesdays and Thursday) 12pm–4pm. The Main Guard Museum is operated by the Berwick Civic Society Trust and entry is free (although donations are gratefully received). The museum can be found on Palace Street, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1HN
